Latent Heat Granulate

Latent Heat Granulate

RUBITHERM® GR

This is a new generation of ecological heat storage granulate in which approx. 35 % of our RUBITHERM® RT phase change material is bound. Used in thermal energy storage applications, the bound PCM melts and congeals, thus storing and releasing the latent heat associated with the phase change process.

Advantages

All the RUBITHERM® bound phase change materials (PCM's) offer the advantage of maintaining their macroscopic solid form during phase change. The PCM is bound within a secondary supporting structure. Our patented mechanism consequently ensures that the PCM, when in the liquid form, does not leak out of the granulate. The result is that the bound PCM is always a "dry" solid product and liquid handling is eliminated. For many applications therefore, large quantities of thermal energy can be stored and released at a relatively constant temperature without any volume changes, even when limited volumes and low operating temperature differences are applicable.

In applications where a rigid board or plate is unsuitable, the storage granulate offers the clear advantage that it can be used to fill containers of any conceivable geometry. The granulate form of the latent heat storage material provides the large surface area required for effective heat transfer.

Various melting temperatures, as defined by the operating temperature of the application, as well as different granulate particle sizes are available.

Applications

Presently, the major applications for our RUBITHERM® GR are  water based underfloor heating systems and latent heat storage elements for food transport. One of the many potential applications is the use as a passive heat storage material, effectively adding thermal mass to buildings constructed of lightweight materials.

Characteristics

RUBITHERM®  GR latent heat granulate is based on our range of RUBITHERM® RT phase change materials with all their advantages.

In addition to the operating temperatures in the table below virtually ALL TEMPERATURES AVAILABLE for RUBITHERM® RT  are also available as GR. This is also true for our new high capacity RTs making for example a

GR 44 HC with a much higher latent heat possible.
